Sweet Virginia

Road trip to Virginia

As many of you know, Mike has been interviewing at orthodontic schools for the past month. He interviewed at VCU in Richmond, Virginia on October 30-31. Since he had a fall break from school after that, we decided to make a family trip of it!

We had a great time! We got our hotel for a smokin' deal off Priceline in downtown Richmond. While Mikey interviewed, I toured around the city. One of the days, I went to tour the Confederate White House where Jefferson Davis lived during the Civil War. I say I went to tour it, but Kira got us kicked off the tour. If you know Kira, you know she is a socialite. She was so busy trying to get everyone's attention on the tour and blabbing on and on that they kindly escorted us both out! Can you believe she's getting us into trouble already? (They did end up giving me a private tour. Gotta love the southern hospitality!)

Mike and I were able to go to Washington D.C. for two of the days! It was awesome. Mike had never been, and I hadn't been since I was 14. We were able to visit the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the White House, the Capitol, the Spy Museum, and the National Air and Space Museum. We had a great time! We both love our country and have tons of national pride. It was great to be in D.C. with all our American history.

This is the staircase that was made famous from the movie "Gone with the Wind." Rhett Butler was once on these steps.
Here's Kira attempting to climb up the steps. (Sorry to hog the camera with my large buttocks!)

Here we are at the Lincoln Memorial!

The U.S. Capitol

The gorgeous fountains at the World War II Memorial

World War II Memorial and Lincoln Memorial
Kira was loving hanging off these bars. But where is she trying to break into?
Take a closer look.

Do you see it back there? Yep, it's the ...

White House! Kira for president!

Here's the Jefferson Memorial. It's a little far away from the other monuments but so worth going to.

The Washington Monument at dusk.

Here's the infrared Courtright's at the National Air and Space Museum. We were laughing our heads off checking out our infrared selves.

What a fun trip. That's so funny that you got kicked out of the tour. When are you supposed to hear about Ortho school? Can't wait to see you guys during Christmas!

Sounds like a fun trip. I love VA -- you know that's where my fam is, right? If you end up there maybe we'll get to actually see you sometime!

What a fun trip. We want to go this summer and tour with Mckenzee. I can't believe how big Kira is getting, she is so cute!

Kim -- we're in Chandler and I absolutely love it here. Winter is over rated, lots of LDS families, but not so many you feel like you're in UT. Everything is new and clean and close. . . It would take a lot to get me to move.

So fun! I bet you guys had non-stop fun. Kira is so much like the two of you. Pretty funny that she got you kicked out of a tour though. Kids will be kids.

Wow! I can't believe mike is graduting next may!! Time flies by so fast! That's great that he is interviewing for orthodontic residency, I hope he gets in where he wants! How was kira on the trip? Now that Delia is walking we can keep her tied down for 2 seconds which makes long car travels extra long. That's awesome you were able to see so many sites, it's nice to take the opportunity to visit as much as you can.

Your hogging of the camera comment made me laugh. I think you have cute buttocks. I'd swap ya! Looked like a blast! We took Emma to DC, also, and didn't feel like we got even an ounce of what they had to offer, and we did a TON. There's so much history there! So glad you're taking advantage of the travels there! Congrats on Ortho School, TOO!!!
